MUPUN... A PEOPLE  OF LANKAN IN NIGERIA
LANKAN...PANKSHIN LGC...PLATEAU... NIGERIA
MUPUN is a tribe of hardworking people in Lankan of Pankshin Local Govt Area, Plateau State, Central Nigeria. Numbering more than a quarter million, the mupun people live in an area called Lankan comprising of several Districts, like Asa, Abwor(Dyis), Jing, Jiblik, Kagu, Londren etc. The mupun people are united by one Language and one history. They are said to have originated more than one thousand years ago from North Eastern Nigeria, ie Borno Area. But over the centuries they have developed a different language, culture and religion from their Borno cousins. They are currently almost 100% Christians while their Borno cousins are almost 70% Moslems.
  During the Jihad era of two centuries ago they were among the few tribes in Central Nigeria that successfully fought Othman DanFodio and his invading armies, hence they were not islamised.
The Mupun people have not only embraced the white man's religion but also his education, consequently their level of education is far above average.
